We visited Forum Studio in their Chicago office yesterday, it was a great experience.
Forum Studio is a subsidiary corporation (or a partner, as Erik Anderson mentioned) of Clayco Incorporation. Our host was Erik Anderson, principal of Forum Studio. He gave us a presentation about Cook County Central Campus Health Center, which was the construction site we were going to visit later on.
Cook County Central Campus Health Center was designed by Gensler (by Geoffrey and his team, we met him before in Gensler) because of their branding. And Forum Studio is the executive architect. The building has 103,000 sq. ft. clinical space and 137,000 sq. ft. administrative space. It will offer the residents of Cook County a patient-centric healthcare center.
We were so lucky to have the chance to visit the construction site in person accompanied by Erik and Gary. We took a look at the layout of the standard clinical floor. It is basically two rows of clinical and exam rooms divided by the “main street” (designed to give the space to show the entrance of Stroger Hospital). And the infusion area is 3 chair per bay, the intention of this arrangement is to give patients opportunities to communicate with each other while they are having infusion therapy, since the infusion process, as Prof. Worn mentioned before, is a long-term therapy, usually takes hours. The glazing is all made by Clayco, that is another advantage for a company to have different disciplines. The triple pane glazing with low e coating is painted with vertical stripes out of aesthetic consideration. Another interesting thing I saw was the corner wrap drywall that would be installed at the corner of the wall, which would efficiently reduce the time to build walls.
It was really a precious experience and a big eye opener to visit a construction site, especially on a freezing cold day. Thanks to Prof. Worn for giving us the opportunity and thanks to our host Erik Anderson for giving us such an informative tour.
