The new Cook County Health Center in Chicago is being built as a replacement of the Fantus Health Center. It is an ambulatory care facility adjacent to the John Stroger Hospital. It is designed to provide outpatient services such as Oral Health, Infusion, Oncology, General Medicine and so on. Along with these, the building will also have offices and administrative services.
The building has been designed by Gensler in collaboration with Forum Studio, Clayco and Brook Architecture. Forum Studio is the Executive architect for this project as a part of a design-build partnership with Clayco. Brook Architecture designed some of the interior administrative spaces. This projecting is targeting a LEED Silver Certification.
It is a 9-story building with a central core and an area of 282,000 sq.ft. The floor to floor heights are relatively large – 14’ on most of the floors and 21’ for the main lobby and the floor with the meeting rooms. The clinical floors have a main street and a cluster of clinics on either side. They have used triple pane glazing units with ceramic frit to improve the energy efficiency of the building.
