Interwoven

We may not get the opportunity as often to see a project that takes all aspects of a community and blends them together to give back to its community and even to its visitors. The 606 brings together all types of activities into various types of spaces outdoors. One can interact with different parts of the trail line.

What I find the most interesting is that although the 606 was meant to create more green space that was much needed in the community, it turned into much more than that. It almost became a wellness trail way. Not only does it bring together these 4 neighborhoods but it fosters well-being. It encourages the people of the area and visitors to use the trail be it walking, running, biking, ect. It is a new space that gives people a new perspective on their community, visually and emotionally. By knitting together these neighborhoods, a new sense of unity is forming with the various types of events they hold there year round.

These types of community interactions are important to the health and well-being of a community. As we have been learning throughout the semester, it isn't all about how sick someone is anymore. It is about promoting the good health and maintaining a healthy life style. The 606 is a great example right here in our own city of that.

This furthers our team's design seeing how a simple trail can create this strong connection between various parts of a city. Although it is in a linear form, it doesn't mean it can be applied in another form. These kind of spaces and interactions that are happening along the trail are just what we would like to design for our project in Lawndale.
